Framing Fabric and Textiles
- There are a number of ways of dealing with framing of fabrics and textiles. For conservation reasons they should be attached to acid free mount card with the use of careful stitching.
- For instance, cotton and silk scarfs or handkerchiefs such as the series employed by artists such as Tracey Emin, should be stitched securely to the background using in order they do not sag, stretch of tears.
- Once this is done, they can be framed in a box frame or surrounded by a further mount in order to keep the artwork away from the glass, a further requirement for conservation.
Over the years we have framed just about every fabric and textile imaginable. We have a great deal of experience which allows us to work with you to find the most appropriate technique that you are happy with.
